Fire One Studio is offering a bounty of perennial favorites in a pottery and glass “Harvest” as our artists cultivate creativity in September.
This is no Crate and Barrel as artist-based cross-pollination is bearing the handmade fruits of their labor in this live-demonstration space. Early season seeds have produced works from conventional to organic, cooperative to monoculturally focused. No Plow and Hearth here, this crop is small-batch, caringly curated.
Bud vases are textured with embossed herbals, glassy plates are adorned with metallic leaf transfers and dishware craves all commodities, from butter to brie to berries. Find a casserole for corn, jug for ginger ale and pitcher for poppies. Combine wine with a stunning handmade cheese tray from a warm, friendly woodfiring or sip tea from a traditional brushpainted tea cup.
Celebrate the season with splashy kiln-formed glass tea light holders, spiraled party platter or crystalline-glazed starry night bottle vase. Toast growth with a personally perfect mug from rustic to refined, tall to teeny. Flowers find homes with vases from raku to thrown stoneware and bring home an heirloom to share and pass to family.
Our artists rotate mediums, expanding production and pushing envelopes. Ecoprint paper impressions echo plantings with dye-style floral and foliage cards and prints in earthy tones and classic indigo. Barnyard and farm friends like pigs, rabbits and fowl are portrayed in handpainted wall art and pottery.
Steer clear of the chains and opt for naturally-grown, local fare. Our products are wild-crafted assured, from free-range independent artists. Dig in.
The “Harvest” show at Fire One Studio runs September 1 to 30; hours are Monday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the studio will be open until 10 p.m. on Thursday, September 9; The gallery is located at 105 North Union Street, ground floor Studio 22 of the Torpedo Factory Art Center, Alexandria, Va. 22314
