Alexandria Choral Society Performance

Join the Alexandria Choral Society (ACS), led by artistic director Brian J. Isaac, for the final concert of the 2018-19 season, An Infinite Universe. The concert will be held at Convergence Arts Initiative at 1801 N. Quaker Lane on Saturday, May 18th at 7:30 p.m.
The concert will present two new commissioned works from prominent composers, both celebrating the space-themed program.
ACS, in conjunction with the Virginia Choral Society, has commissioned two new works that will be performed: “That’s one small step…” by Tawnie Olson and “Partial Lunar Eclipse” by Lori Laitman Olson, a prolific composer whose works have been described as “especially glorious...ethereal” by Whole Note, has written four movements that embody the excitement of the space race and the Apollo 11 mission. Laitman, described by Fanfare Magazine as “one of the most talented and intriguing of living composers,” has taken a poem written by Sri Lankan poet Anne Ranasinghe and originally composed for solo voice and piano, and reimagined it for a full chorus.
The concert will also feature a performance from a student group selected as the recipient of ACS’s Sing-Off Grant Program. The selected group will perform with ACS for two works at the conclusion of the concert.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, members of the military, and students. Children 13 and under are admitted free. (Tickets are also available at the door for an additional $5 from the online price.)
