Catholic Charities USA filed an application to add a café in 2,088 square feet on the ground floor of its headquarters building located at 2050 Ballenger Ave. in Suite 400. According to the application, the space was formerly occupied by the Carlyle Club restaurant.
The organization is one of the largest non-profits organizations in the country. Founded in 1910, the organization’s mission is to serve people in need and advocate for social justice.
The café, which will be called Sprig’s Cafe, will serve “light lunches, pastries and non-alcoholic beverages.” It will also serve as a place where those who are unemployed will be able to receive workforce training, in keeping with the non-profit’s mission.
Operating hours are proposed to be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. The café is expected to employ 3-4 people at a time and serve 250 patrons a day.
During hours that the café is closed, the commercial kitchen will be available for use by members of underserved communities and “provide vocational and workforce training in the fields of basic food service, food preparation and hospitality,” according to the application.
