Work has stopped, again, on a hotel site on North Washington Street, city officials have said.
The owners of the site at 802 N. Washington St. moved a historic home on the property with plans to incorporate it into a new, 5-story hotel. (Learn more about the home here.) After a slow start due to pandemic delays, the site was excavated for an underground garage.
However, there have been issues with materials and inspections, including a stop work order in 2022. Now, financing challenges have forced the owner to pause the project. A local hotel broker said the site and its plans are up for sale.
Several blocks east of the hotel site, the Tidelock project along the Potomac River in Old Town North is also on hold, according to the North Old Town Independent Citizens Association. The project was meant to convert the American Physical Therapy Association buildings to condos, No reason was given for the pause in construction on that project.
