Sur La Table is reopening its store in Old Town Alexandria.
The Seattle-based kitchen and houseware chain filed for bankruptcy in July 2020 and shut down 51 stores later that year, including the Old Town location at 326 King St. The storefront has remained empty since the store closed — until today.
Sur La Table was bought out by Marquee Brands and CSC Generation. The company, which was known for offering in-store cooking classes, created online classes and launched the Sur La Table Online Culinary Institute during the pandemic. The retailer is also launching an updated line of private label cookware and will once again host in-person classes.
"As the DMV continues its COVID-19 recovery, the EastBanc team is pleased to welcome Sur La Table back into our King Street portfolio. Over the nearly two years since Sur La Table closed its doors, community members have expressed their desire for it to return to the neighborhood. Now, as it plans to re-open on Thursday, March 10, we believe Sur La Table will see great excitement from the community and success in Alexandria for years to come," said the store's landlord, EastBanc Principal Philippe Lanier.
Sur La Table also has open stores in Pentagon Row and Tysons in Virginia, and North Bethesda, Maryland.
Hours at the now-open Alexandria location are Monday through Wednesday 11 a.m. - 7 p.m., Thursday and Friday 11 a.m. - 9 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
