Harris Teeter opens Wednesday at 4550 King St. at West Alex in Alexandria.
The new 72,000-square foot Harris Teeter at 4550 King St., at the West Alex development, opened its doors to the public Wednesday morning with balloons, lots of "2 for 1" deals and even the store's mascot, Harry the Happy Dragon, greeting customers.
Customers can find plenty of parking in a parking garage below the store and can get to the garage from King Street or N. Beauregard Street. Visitors can grab a shopping cart in the garage before heading inside or upstairs in the store. Entry from the parking garage is via escalator or elevator. Plenty of grocery store employees were on hand Wednesday to greet customers.
As you enter the spacious store upstairs off the elevator, you'll immediately see a large Starbucks with plenty of seating.
The store entrance at the front of the store opens onto a large full-service floral department as well as some of the hot "to-go" items department that includes freshly made pizza. (This week only, the store is offering a large whole pizza for $7.99 (limit four) with your VIC (Very Important Customer) savings card, which you can register for at the store.)
The pharmacy is offering $25 worth of free groceries for each new or transferred prescription through Sept. 30.
Some 2 for 1 deals this week include: Smithfield All Natural Pork Baby Back Ribs; 16-ounce Land O Lakes butter; 48-ounce Turkey Hill Premium Ice Cream or 16-ounce Halo Top; Vlasic pickles; Townhouse crackers; Snyders Pretzels and much more.
In addition to 2 for 1 deals, the store is offering $5 off your first four orders of $40 or more using their Harris Teeter Expresslane Online Shopping until July 20. The VIC card offers more overall savings on other items and also racks up points for discounts of up to $1 per gallon at the gas pump.
Some of the other deals include a dozen Harris Teeter Grade A Large eggs for 77 cents for VIC members and 99 cents for non-members from June 24-27 and marinated chicken on a stick for $2.99 per pound this week.
When you leave the store, the escalator offers a track for grocery carts but the smaller grocery carts can only go down on the elevator. The store also offers some child-size carts.
Store hours are 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Pharmacy hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.
