The store at Bradlee Shopping Center in Alexandria (3562 King St.) is already hosting closing sales. All sales will be final and store fixtures will be available.
In a statement, Pet Valu Chief Restructuring Officer Jamie Gould said: “The company’s stores have been significantly impacted by the protracted COVID-19-related restrictions. ... After a thorough review of all available alternatives, we made the difficult but necessary decision to commence this orderly wind down.”
The stores, which are typically smaller than competitors like PetCo and PetSmart, reportedly had a hard time staying open after social distancing became necessary due to the pandemic, according to analysts. The company also struggled to compete in e-commerce.
The company has more than 350 stores nationwide.
