A new retail and residential development is coming to the 1300 block of King Street, displacing two longtime Alexandria businesses.
The Holladay Corp. and The Foundry Cos. have partnered to create plans for 1300 and 1310 King Street (at the intersection of King and South Payne streets). It will include 33 residential units above retail on the ground floor. The original building at 1300 King Street will remain and be integrated with a new adjacent building.
Currently, Pines of Florence and Aftertime Comics are in the retail spaces there, and they will have to vacate for construction, as first reported in the Washington Business Journal.
“We have been looking at Old Town, Alexandria for some time and when we saw the chance to work on an urban infill development, within walking distance to the Metro and the waterfront, we knew that it was an excellent opportunity for ourselves and for our partners,” Christian Cronin, Managing Partner with The Foundry Cos., said in a press release.
The building sold for a reported $3.3 million in November, according to Washington Business Journal.
The property may have a historic twist: Earlier renovations to the early 1800s structure at 1300 King Street was covered with stucco and formstone, which may be removed to reveal the original masonry, WBJ noted.
Below-grade parking is part of the plan, according to MAC Realty Advisors, which marketed the property.
