While Alexandrians wait on any word about the redevelopment of Landmark Mall, a new development is taking shape across the street.
The owner of an 8.2 acre plot of land at the corner of South Walker Street and Stevenson Avenue has conceptual plans to redevelop, but there are no plans in front of city staff yet and no timeline for construction.
The land currently has a Big Lots store, Alley Cat restaurant, the Dunya Banquet Hall and an office building. The land is south of Duke Street and west of South Van Dorn Street.
The land could be used for a mixed-use development that includes up to 88 condos, a hotel, office space and retail, according to Hekemian, which owns the property and spoke to the Eisenhower West-Landmark Van Dorn Implementation Advisory Group last week.
