Five Guys, the burgers-and-fries restaurant famous for its barrel of peanuts in every store, is moving its corporate headquarters to Alexandria.
The company had its corporate headquarters in Lorton for the past several years. The Washington Business Journal broke the story about the HQ move.
Five Guys has leased space at 1940 Duke St., at the intersection of Duke and Delaney streets in the Carlyle District.
Five Guys opened as a carry-out burger restaurant in Arlington in 1986. The story goes: Jerry and Janie Murrell offered sage advice to the four young Murrell brothers: 'Start a business or go to college.' The business route won and the Murrell family opened a carry-out burger joint in Arlington, Virginia."
Today, Five Guys (named for those four boys and a fifth son born later) has more than 1,700 restaurants worldwide.
