Conte’s Bike Shop is opening a new location in the heart of Old Town Alexandria.
The new bicycle shop will open at 1100 King Street (at the corner of King and Henry streets) in early March, said co-owner Wayne Souza.
Conte’s is a family-owned business and was founded in 1957. In addition to selling bicycles, parts, apparel and accessories, Conte’s offers repair services and rentals.
“Old Town is a special place,” Souza said. “It has a ‘vibe’ and a ‘heartbeat’ that is undeniable, and our intersection at King and Henry streets is ‘main stage.’”
The Alexandria location adds to the Conte’s Bike Shop footprint in Northern Virginia and DC, with locations in Falls Church and Arlington in Virginia, and on Wisconsin Avenue NW and Navy Yards (in Southeast) in the District. “We are thrilled to be part of the Old Town community,” Souza said.
The Old Town location will stock electric bicycles.
“We will carry pedal assist, electric bikes; therefore, you will still need to do some pedaling, haha! The e-bike sector of our industry in Europe and here in the States is expanding rapidly, as is Conte's line of e-bike inventory from our major manufacturers,” Souza said.
The store will open to the public first, and have a grand opening later in the spring, when the weather is a little bit more optimum for cycling, Souza said. Stay tuned to the Conte’s Bike Shop Facebook and Instagram pages for details on events, sales and more.
The Old Town location is hiring. Those wanting to apply can do so by visiting the Conte’s Bike Shop website and competing an online application.
Other Virginia locations of Conte’s Bike Shop include Richmond, Williamsburg, Midlothian, Newport News and Chesapeake. The company also recently expanded to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
