The Safeway store at Crossroads Center in Bailey's Crossroads is closing its doors for good on Saturday, June 22, according to signs posted at the store.
The store has been open in that location for more than 20 years.
Located at 5821 Crossroads Center off of Leesburg Pike, the longtime store is currently holding a liquidation sale with many items 10 percent to 20 percent off. Store hours are 5 a.m. to midnight.
On Sunday, the store was busy, with some shelves already getting a bit bare.
In recent years, Yelpers have given the store two out of five stars, with many complaints about long lines.
No word on what new store might move in to replace the Safeway.
Other nearby grocery stores include a Trader Joe's just across Leesburg Pike and a Giant store at Crossroads Place shopping center, at Leesburg Pike and Jefferson Street.
A new ALDI grocery store is being built where Babies 'R Us used to be. It may open in 2020.
Safeway is headquartered in Pleasanton, Calif. The chain stores were founded in 1915 by Marion Barton Skaggs in American Falls, Idaho. It is currently owned by parent company Albertson's, which in addition to Safeway includes Vons, Randalls and other grocery stores.
