The first movie trailer for "Wonder Woman 1984" has hit YouTube.
The next Wonder Woman movie in the series will be in theaters this summer. It is set, in part, in a 1980s suburban shopping mall.
That mall is none other than Landmark Mall in Alexandria's West End. The mall is closed (except for Sears) and awaiting redevelopment. Since the mall is vacant, owner Howard Hughes Corp. and the City of Alexandria made it available for the filmmakers.
The follow-up to the Warner Bros. Pictures and DC’s first Wonder Woman was directed by Patty Jenkins. It stars Gal Gadot, Kristin Wiig and Pedro Pascal. The movie was originally set for release in November 2019, but was pushed to June 2020.
Sears remains open for business at Landmark Mall, but all other mall stores are closed. The Carpenter's Shelter is operating out of a renovated Macy's until a new shelter and transitional housing building is completed in North Old Town.
The Howard Hughes Corp. and the City of Alexandria are working on significant redevelopment plans for the 51-acre mall site.
