The opening of Wonder Woman 1984, which was filmed partially at the shuttered Landmark Mall in Alexandria's West End, has been delayed until October 2.
Director Patty Jenkins made the announcement online. The release had already been delayed until August, in the hopes that movie theaters would be open and full by then.
The follow-up to the Warner Bros. Pictures and DC’s first Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot, Kristin Wiig and Pedro Pascal. The movie was originally set for release in November 2019, but was pushed to June 2020. Then, coronavirus arrived in the United States and the film's release was pushed again.
Right now, most movie theaters in Virginia remain closed due to coronavirus restrictions. When they reopen, there may be physical distancing requirements in place for moviegoers.
The movie theater at Potomac Yard, which was slated for redevelopment anyway as part of the Virginia Tech Innovation Campus, may never reopen, according to Washington Business Journals.
AMC Theaters nationwide are facing financial difficulties from being closed since March, and the company is at risk of declaring bankruptcy.
