Tuesday evening, Showing up for Racial Justice (SURJ) convened a peaceful vigil outside the Alexandria Police Department.
SURJ describes itself as a local chapter of a national network of groups and individuals organizing white people for racial justice.
According to the Facebook event invitation, the event "is to show that George Floyd’s and Breonna Taylor’s murderers were not just rogue cops, but they represent underlying conditions of racist policing that manifest here in northern Virginia as well."
Attendees were asked to wear masks and practice social distancing.
The vigil was quiet, followed by the reading of names of people who have been killed.
