When is peak bloom for DC cherry blossoms this year? The National Park Service on Thursday, Feb. 27, announced their timeframe prediction as March 28-31 as this year's peak bloom dates.
Peak bloom is when 70% of the iconic cherry blossoms open on the Yoshino cherry trees around the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC. The full blooming period lasts from several days to up to two weeks, depending on weather conditions.
The cherry blossom trees currently grow in three National Park Service locations: around the Tidal Basin in West Potomac Park, in East Potomac Park (Hains Point), and on the Washington Monument grounds. For information on varieties of cherry blossom trees and park maps, see the National Park Service cherry blossom page.
What began with a gift in 1912 at the Tidal Basin now spans four weeks throughout Washington, DC, and neighboring communities in Virginia and Maryland.
