Get in some "me" time this weekend at this wellness event in Alexandria.
The private cinema at The Satire a Marriott Autograph Collection hotel, will trade movies for singing bowls this Sunday.
The Old Town North hotel — known until this June as Hotel AKA Alexandria — is hosting the Summer Reset Experience on Sunday, Aug. 16, a two-part wellness afternoon that pairs a reformer Pilates class with a sound bath. It is organized by Lalita Method, the Pilates studio inside the hotel at 625 First St.
Each session opens with a 30-minute reformer class led by Danielle Farrah, who founded the Lalita Method. Guests then move to the hotel's cinema for a 30-minute sound bath led by Cagla Giray of Su + Soul, who also leads sessions at the Ritz-Carlton Georgetown. Organizers describe the sound bath as an immersive session built on sustained tones and vibration, intended to help participants unwind and settle into deep relaxation.
In between, there's a complimentary electrolyte tasting with Kam Khosh, sampling new hydration flavors from the brand SRC.
Two sessions are scheduled, and space is limited. Registration is open for the 12:15 p.m. session and the 12:50 p.m. session, with full details on the event listing at Lalita Method's site.
A new name on First Street
For readers who know the building by its old sign: the hotel became The Satire on June 17, joining Marriott's Autograph Collection. The 180-room property, designed by Italian architect Piero Lissoni, is now managed by Concord Hospitality and remains under the ownership of Electra America Hospitality Group. Its two dining rooms were renamed in the same wave — The Wise Fool for breakfast and dinner, the Bad Poet Café for casual bites.
The wellness programming is not new to the property, though. Lalita Method has run rooftop mat classes and seasonal sound baths in the same cinema space since the Hotel AKA days, alongside the hotel's monthly Silent Reading Parties with Old Town Books. Organizers say the Summer Reset format is one they plan to repeat.
