This year’s holiday shopping season is more important than ever for independent retailers. In support of Alexandria's large community of independent boutiques, Visit Alexandria announced the city’s biggest shopping week of the year, the second annual Alexandria Shop Small Week, Nov. 26 to Dec. 2.
Kicking off with Plaid Friday: Alexandria’s Small Business Black Friday on Nov. 26 and Small Business Saturday on Nov. 27, Alexandria Shop Small Week is an opportunity to show your support for the D.C. region’s largest destination for independent boutiques. Enjoy seven days of deals and happenings including Museum Store Sunday Nov. 28, a small business Cyber Monday on Nov. 29 and Giving Tuesday on Nov. 30.
On Giveaway Wednesday, Dec. 1, be sure to follow Visit Alexandria’s Instagram at @VisitAlexVA for an Alexandria Shop and Stay giveaway and the chance to win an overnight hotel stay, massage for two at Sugarhouse Day Spa and the choice of three $50 gift cards from participating boutiques. Celebrate the end of Alexandria Shop Small Week with a new Moonlight Merriment event on Thursday, Dec. 2.
Plan to “shop small” and “shop sooner” to make sure you get the gifts you want in time for the holidays. Browse holiday gifts in stores or shop online at select retailers. Many are offering free gifts with purchase, storewide discounts, complimentary gift wrapping and more. At Alexandria’s boutiques, you’re greeted by local shop owners and offered personalized customer service with curated gift suggestions ranging from home décor, chic fashions and gourmet food to classic toys and gifts for pets.

- Plaid Friday: Alexandria’s Small Business Black Friday - Nov. 26: Nearly 50 independent shops, many opening early, offer some of their best deals of the year, including early bird and store-wide discounts, with free parking available at select garages.
- Small Business Saturday - Nov. 27: Enjoy free parking at select garages, live music along pedestrian-only areas of King Street, prizes from the Elf Patrol and more than 50 independent boutiques featuring discounts or gifts with purchase throughout Old Town & Del Ray.
- Museum Store Sunday - Nov. 28: Enjoy discounts of 20% at participating Alexandria museum stores, plus discounts on select merchandise and one-of-a-kind Alexandria stocking stuffers at the Alexandria Visitor Center.
- Cyber Monday - Nov. 29: Promotional online offers from nearly 40 Alexandria boutiques include discounts, free gifts with purchase and free shipping.
- Giving Tuesday – Nov. 30: Participating shops and restaurants will donate a percentage of purchases to Alexandria nonprofits through a partnership with the Old Town Business Association.
- Giveaway Wednesday– Dec.1: Follow @VisitAlexVA for the Alexandria Shop and Stay giveaway and your chance to win an overnight hotel stay, massage for two at Sugarhouse Day Spa and the choice of three $50 gift cards from participating boutiques.
- Moonlight Merriment – Dec. 2: Enjoy an evening of shopping and dining throughout Old Town from 5 to 8 p.m., complete with lighted trees, holiday decor, carolers, musicians and more.
