Oronoco Bay Park will be filled with mallets, wickets and croquet players on Thursday, May 31.
Croquet Day, sponsored by SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now) of Northern Virginia, is a happy hour-style croquet tournament. The event is 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. rain or shine on May 31, with an after-party at Vola’s Dockside Grill.
Croquet Day supports SCAN, a non-profit organization with the mission to promote the well-being of children, improve relationships between parents and children, and prevent child abuse and neglect.
Registration is still open for croquet teams (of two to four people) at SCANVA.org. Spectator tickets are also available ($20) and include five food and beverage tickets, a raffle ticket and a Vola’s After-Party coupon.
Fans and players can enjoy finger foods from Sugar Shack, Vola’s Dockside Grill, Meggrolls, and District Taco, beer and wine supplied by Virginia Eagle, prizes from Springfield Golf and Country Club, Kiskiack Golf Club, Alexandria Restaurant Partners, Port City Brewing, Total Wine and More and Naked Mountain Winery, and free parking from American Real Estate Partners and Colonial Parking. Event photographs will be provided courtesy of PSK Photography.
In addition, there is an after-party at Vola’s Dockside Grill for attendees — 15 percent of attendees’ tabs will be donated back to SCAN.
SCAN of Northern Virginia provides direct parent education, advocates for children in the community, legislature and court system, and also educates the community about child abuse. “Our vision is that every child in Northern Virginia will grow up in a safe, stable, nurturing family, with the supports they need to contribute to stronger communities today and as adults tomorrow,” according to the organization.
