Scheduled for this Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3, Revolutionary War Weekend is an immersive, highly visual experience that brings the founding era to life at Mount Vernon. Across the estate, hundreds of costumed reenactors recreate the sights and sounds of the American Revolution with battlefield demonstrations, musket and artillery drills, cavalry maneuvers, and camp life displays.
Guests will encounter General Washington, interact with soldiers and artisans, and explore authentic encampments that showcase how troops lived, trained, and prepared for battle. The weekend offers dynamic, photo-ready moments at every turn—from the thunder of cannon fire to the precision of marching formations—making it a must-cover event for visual storytelling.
Designed as a “living history” experience, Revolutionary War Weekend invites media to capture the drama, humanity, and enduring legacy of America’s fight for independence in a setting unlike any other.
There also will be exclusive book signings:
• On Saturday, join author Tim Grove as he signs copies of his book, "George Washington: A Revolutionary Life." The book tells the same story of George Washington that you can experience in the new Education Center exhibition, with never-before-published research, new insights, and the same full-color illustrations and archival art as is on display.
• On Sunday, join author Tom Hand from Americana Corner as he signs copies of his books "An American Triumph and America Victorious."
These books explore America's founding era through the lives of Ben Franklin, George Washington, and John Adams, as well as the untold stories of the lesser-known brave men who helped secure our nation’s independence.
