Alexandria's restaurants, venues and hotels are celebrating Pride Month by offering a slew of discounts and fun events in June.
Here's some of what's going on:
Drag Brunch at the King & Rye — Saturday, June 4, enjoy a lively southern brunch featuring DMV’s best drag entertainment. Brunch starts at 11 a.m. and the show starts at noon. Performances by Amber St. Lexington, Siren Kelly, Vagenesis (National Bearded Empress 2022), Dabatha Christie and Hosted by Cake. Alexandria Pride Event — The Alexandria LGBTQ+ Task Force is hosting the 5th Annual Alexandria Pride Event at Charles Houston Recreation Center on Sunday, June 5. Back by popular demand in partnership with the Alexandria Library is “Drag Queen Story Time with Venus” at 2 p.m., perfect for children ages 3 to 8. Enjoy spoken word with C. Thomas at 3 p.m. Collect Pride swag, enjoy music and food, make some art, pose for a Pride pic, and learn about LGBTQ-inclusive services in Alexandria. Free and confidential HIV testing available.
The Late Shift at the Torpedo Factory — On Friday, June 10, the Art Center's signature evening series returns with eclectic art and activities celebrating Pride. The fun starts at 7 p.m.
Pride Art Weekend — Make your own Pride patches on June 21 at Barrett Branch Library. Open to all teens ages 12 to 18. (Wear clothing that can get dirty.) On June 22, make tie-dye pride tote bags at Beatley Central Library. More info about both events is available here.
Growing Pride at the Garden — On June 26, join Alexandria’s largest Pride celebration with 15 local LGBTQ+ makers and allies, local food trucks, live music and crafting at The Garden ALX. Enjoy local food trucks (including snow cones from Anita’s Frozen Cotton Candy), live music, and kids crafting available throughout the event provided by UpCycle. The event will be both inside the event space, the state-of-the-art workshop and outside on the patio. Sportrock will be offering two free climbs for all Growing Pride attendees! Learn more here.
