The PNC Alexandria Half is Northern Virginia’s marquee spring running event, coming up on Sunday, April 26. Runners can enjoy 13.1 miles through the heart of Old Town and out and back on the beautiful George Washington Parkway or choose the 5K and exclusively experience the charm of Old Town. A post-race party follows.
The PNC Alexandria Half Marathon is the modern evolution of the "Parkway Classic," a race that has been a Northern Virginia staple since 1984. For decades, it was a 10-miler, but in 2025, it grew into a full 13.1-mile half marathon to meet the demands of a growing running community.
The half-marathon and 5K both kick off Sunday, April 26 at 7 a.m. at 301 King St. in Old Town Alexandria, finishing up at N. Union and Oronoco streets in Old Town. The Kids Docs Dash begins at 10:30 a.m. at Union and King streets and finishes up at Oronoco Bay Park at 100 Madison St.
Water stops and aid stations will be located along the routes.
PNC Bank continue its tradition as title sponsor to anchor their "Run with PNC" initiative. They focus on community wellness and often use the race to highlight local economic growth. They aren't alone, though; the race is a collaborative effort. Other sponsors include:
- Pacers Running: The local powerhouse that actually produces and manages the event.
- On: The official footwear partner (look for their "Try-on" booths at the expo).
- The Kidz Docs: A local pediatric group that sponsors the youth dash to promote early fitness.
- MedStar Health: The official medical sponsor of the PNC Alexandria Half, bringing trusted healthcare expertise to Alexandria's premier spring running event.
The Swag: More than just a Medal
Every runner wants the "receipt" for their hard work. The race offers:
The Shirt: A premium technical (moisture-wicking) finisher shirt.
The "No-Shirt" Option: In a cool nod to sustainability, if your closet is already overflowing with race tees, you can choose to receive $10 in Retail Bucks for Pacers Running stores or have that money donated directly to the Dunbar Alexandria-Olympic Boys & Girls Club.
The Medal: A heavy, custom-designed medal that usually features Alexandria’s iconic nautical or colonial architecture.
The Finish Line Festival
The race ends at Oronoco Bay Park, right on the water. This isn't just a "grab a banana and leave" situation. The after-party is a full-blown festival:
- Port City Brewing Co. Beer Garden: Runners (21+) get a celebratory post-race craft beer from Alexandria's award-winning local brewery.
- Live Music: Local bands play on the waterfront stage while you stretch out on the grass.
