"The few moments of rain yesterday simply made the flowers brighter!"
The 92nd Historic Garden Week Old Town Alexandria Tour was a big success Saturday, despite a few raindrops here and there.
Five Alexandria homeowners opened their homes and gardens to hundreds of ticket-holders again this year to benefit the beautification, preservation and conservation of Virginia. Each home showcased beautiful architecture, historic restorations, and inspiring floral arrangements created by garden club members.
The 2025 tour came together with the help of many volunteers and chairs Barbara Warder and Paige Nicholson.
It was hosted by The Garden Club of Alexandria and the Hunting Creek Garden Club. You can follow both clubs on Instagram and find out more about Hunting Creek Garden Club, including its annual Christmas greens sale, on its website.
A 2025 Spring Marketplace was also held during the tour, at The Athenaeum, 201 Prince St. Specialty boutique vendors included A Shirt Story; Deo duPont Jewelry; Bee City USA; Georgetown Paperie; Heidi Wynne; Meg Carter Designs; Sarah Bray Bermuda; SantM; Soul and Story; Susan's Jewelry and The Rounds NYC.
In addition to touring private homes and gardens, visitors enjoyed complimentary access to several of Alexandria’s premier historic sites, including George Washington’s Mount Vernon, River Farm, Green Spring Gardens, and the Lee-Fendall House.
“We were delighted to welcome visitors from near and far to Old Town for this year’s tour,” said tour co-Chair Barbara Warder. “The weather didn’t get in the way of enjoying a truly special day. It was wonderful to see so many people exploring the rich history, beautiful homes, and vibrant gardens that make Old Town Alexandria so unique.”
Proceeds from the event will support the restoration and preservation of historic public gardens and landscapes across Virginia, continuing a legacy of conservation that has spanned nearly a century.
Historic Garden Week will return next year from April 18–25, 2026, with more opportunities to explore Virginia’s extraordinary homes and gardens.
