One-of-a-kind, local gifts from Alexandria businesses and entrepreneurs are available through a number of pop-up shops this holiday season.
Hotel Indigo in Old Town Alexandria is hosting a holiday pop-up series presented in partnership with Pop-up ALX, an Alexandria Economic Development Partnership program.
On Nov. 17-18, visit Gallery of Indonesia’s pop-up with a demonstration of Indonesian Batik Painting, a form of cloth dyeing that uses hot wax to create patterns, by owner Mey Hasibuan.
Second Daughter will show off jewelry on Nov. 24 and 25 from artist Jessica Speckhard.
Then, Dec. 1 and 2 showcases Mom & I by EK, a mother-daughter-run jewelry company with pieces inspired by handmade Turkish designs.
A portion of proceeds from the pop-ups at Hotel Indigo will be donated to Act for Alexandria, an organization that distributes grants for revitalization of the Alexandria area and community.
Pop-ups are also open every Saturday from Nov. 24 through Dec. 22 in the Upper King Street neighborhood. Supported in part by the King Street Corridor Initiative, here’s the schedule of pop-up shops near the intersection of North Fayette and King Streets:

Nov. 24: Penny Post (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and a braid bar from Salon deZen (2 to 4 p.m.)
Dec. 1: Imagine Artwear kid’s craft (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and bracelet making from Today’s Cargo (2 to 4 p.m.)
Dec. 8: Pendant craft from Wear Ever Jewelry (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and cooking making from Lori’s Table (2 to 4 p.m.)
Dec. 15: Chair massages by The Wellness Cooperative (2 to 4 p.m.)
Dec. 22: Toy making and games from Red Barn Mercantile (2 to 4 p.m.)
