It’s the Summer of (Alexander) Hamilton.
Museums and historic sites are hosting a wide variety of Hamilton-themed events, as the popular and award-winning musical runs at The Kennedy Center through mid-September. (Tickets and more information here.)
Hamilton was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States, a delegate to the Constitutional Convention, George Washington’s assistant and more. He died in an infamous duel with Aaron Burr in 1804.
In Alexandria, there are a variety of Hamilton-themed tours and events throughout this summer.
Here are the highlights:
Hamilton VFF & Frenemies Tour — Gadsby’s Tavern Museum hosts a tour focused on Hamilton’s BFFs and frenemies, who all dined at the tavern, including Washington, Lafayette, Jefferson, Madison and Burr. The tours are offered at 10 a.m. every Saturday through Labor Day weekend. For more information, visit www.alexandriava.gov/GadsbysTavern.
18th Century Gaming Night — Also hosted at Gadsby’s Tavern Museum, play a variety of 18th century games such as Shut the Box, Fox and Geese, Dice and a special version of Cards Against Humanity. Be Washington — The interactive exhibit at George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate allows guests to make decisions as if they were running the fledgling country in the 1700s. Chris Jackson, who played George Washington in “Hamilton” on Broadway, introduces each scenario in the exhibit.
