Del Ray residents and businesswomen Lauren Fisher and Amy Eggers have started a monthly flea market called the Del Ray Vintage and Flea Market.
The market is held on the second Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of 1900 Mt. Vernon Ave. in the Del Ray section of Alexandria.
Look for the next flea markets on Sept. 14 and Oct. 12.
The goal of the market is to give community members a chance to participate in a grass-roots event, either as shoppers or vendors, with vintage/antique/flea market items they are hoping to sell or acquire.
Fisher and Eggers both have a love for all-things vintage and say they thought this was a natural fit to add to their community, especially since neighboring locales offer similar events but there was nothing along Mt. Vernon Avenue on a reoccurring basis.
“I’ve been a collector and occasional dealer of Mid-Century Modern for nearly 20 years so this is a natural fit," said Eggers, "and especially so to collaborate with and meet other like-minded neighbors.
The fourth-generation Del Ray resident noted that “creating a greater sense of inclusion and community is extremely important to me, and even better when it’s something anyone can participate in.”
Since it kicked off in June, items for sale have ranged from vintage and like-new clothing to housewares, sports memorabilia, child and baby items, artwork and more. Fisher and Eggers are encouraging all vendors to sell vintage and retro items. A wide variety of prices and items are represented.
