Get ready for some fun and relaxation Sunday, Jan. 11 from 11 a.m. to noon with a little yoga in Old Town Alexandria. Unwind, stretch and find your flow in a truly unique setting during "Yoga with Cats," a gentle and joyful class that blends mindful movement with the calming presence of friendly felines.
Hosted at Mount Purrnon Cat Café and Wine Bar in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, this one-hour session invites participants to reconnect with their bodies while sharing the mat with curious, adoptable cats who may wander, nap or quietly observe as you move through your practice.
The class is led by experienced instructors from Soma Yoga Healing Center, who guide students through an accessible, all-levels yoga flow focused on relaxation, breath and stress relief.
Practicing yoga alongside cats can offer surprising benefits: The soothing sound of purring can help lower stress and anxiety, spontaneous feline interactions encourage laughter and presence and the overall experience fosters emotional well-being and mindfulness in a lighthearted, welcoming environment.
All cats at the café are available for adoption through Canines and Kitties Rescue and Marlee’s Misfits, giving attendees the opportunity to learn about adoption, support local rescue efforts and perhaps even meet a future furry family member. Events like the yoga class help socialize cats, increase their visibility and create meaningful connections between animals and people.
Mount Purrnon Cat Café and Wine Bar is a beloved local venue that combines a cozy café atmosphere with a mission-driven focus on animal welfare. Located at 109 S. Alfred St., the space is designed to be both relaxing and community-oriented, making it the perfect backdrop for this feel-good experience.
