GardenFest returns to Del Ray for a second year.
Del Ray's second annual GardenFest organized by the Del Ray Citizens Association will return Sunday, April 23 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. at 2207 Mount Vernon Ave. in Alexandria's Del Ray neighborhood.
The free, outdoor educational festival features garden-centric demonstrations, informational booths and activities for all ages. The event offers a chance to learn about all sorts of gardening topics like at-home composting, rainwater recovery, beekeeping and more.
Organizers will give away hundreds of native tree seedlings and thousands of fruit, vegetable and herb seeds to all attendees.

At the event, the City of Alexandria will present the Ellen Pickering Environmental Excellence Award. More details will be available soon.

- Lost Boy Cider will host a "cider garden" at the event: "Join Lost Boy Cider, the only urban cidery in NOVA, at Garden Fest! We'll have refreshing hard cider to sip on while enjoying all the vendors and activities throughout the event. Our ciders use apples from a Virginia Orchard in the Shenandoah Valley region. Comeback Kid is a blend of 7 different, unpasteurized apple varieties. Our cider is unfiltered and uses earth-grown ingredients. Gherkin is our Comeback Kid base with hand chopped and pressed cucumber juice, steeped with pickling spices. All combined and fermented in brite tanks. All of our ciders are Sugar Free (Dry) and Gluten Free."
