Alexandria will turn pink as the ALX Pink Gala returns to Old Town this week for an evening dedicated to raising funds and awareness for breast cancer care in the local region.
The gala will take place Friday, Sept. 25, from 7-10 p.m. at ALX Community Atrium, 277 S. Washington St., in Old Town Alexandria, bringing together local residents, businesses and community leaders to support the Breast Cancer Collective.
The Collective works to remove barriers to breast cancer care by helping women and men access mammograms, diagnostic services and necessary follow-up treatment, regardless of income, insurance status or background.
“What makes the ALX Pink Gala particularly special is the way our entire community comes together behind it. Galas can be expensive to produce, and too often much of the money raised is consumed by the cost of the event itself. The ALX Pink Gala is different,” said Kelly Grant, COO of ALX Community.
“Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of partners like Purple Onion, ALX Community and so many others, approximately 90% of the food, beverages, service and venue costs are donated," she said. "That means the money raised can actually go where we all want it to go, directly toward helping women in our community who need it.”
The evening will feature music and dancing, food and drinks and opportunities to support the Collective’s work throughout the region. Guests may also purchase VIP tickets, which include an exclusive rooftop experience at Above ALX Community from 6-7 p.m. with premium cocktails, elevated hors d’oeuvres and views of Old Town Alexandria.
Local businesses are also playing an important role in the effort, with sponsorship opportunities ranging from $500 to $10,000. Sponsorships include opportunities to participate in both the Gala and Walk to Bust Cancer while demonstrating support for breast cancer care in the local community.
About the Breast Cancer Collective
The Breast Cancer Collective works to improve access to breast cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment, particularly for individuals who are uninsured, underinsured or otherwise face barriers to receiving care. Through community support and fundraising initiatives, the organization helps ensure that financial circumstances do not prevent individuals from receiving potentially life-saving breast health services.
