The story of a mysterious United States Navy helicopter crash off the coast of Virginia will be one of the featured films Veteran’s Day weekend during the 13th annual Alexandria Film Festival (AFF).
"Who Killed Lt. Van Dorn?" will be part of the festival's Veteran's Showcase this year. The film will be one of more than 50 new films, screened Nov. 7 - 10 at venues across Alexandria, including the AMC Hoffman Center 22 Cinema Complex and Beatley Central Library. Several of the films in the Alexandria Film Festival are premiers. The four-day event is open to the public, though some films are ticketed. A selection of films will be featured for family audiences.
Alexandria native Casey Wilson — a former Saturday Night Live (SNL) actress and current filmmaker and director — will attend the Alexandria premiere of her film, "Daddio." Wilson graduated from T.C. Willams High School in 1998. "Daddio" is slated for release in late October, making the Alexandria Film Festival one of the first places to see the 18-minute comedy short.
Another Alexandrian, filmmaker Marc Carlini, will come back to Alexandria for the screening of "She's in Portland." The movie stars Tommy Dewey, Francois Arnaud and Minka Kelly in a roadtrip story about two college friends seeking what could have been. Carlini now lives in the Los Angeles area.
Other not-to-be-missed films include the star-studded “This Changes Everything,” an investigative look and analysis of gender disparity in Hollywood, featuring commentary by Meryl Streep, Jessica Chastain, Natalie Portman, Cate Blanchett, Zoe Saldana, Geena Davis and others.

(Van Dorn Street in Alexandria was actually named for another Van Dorn — not the one featured in the Veteran's Showcase film. Van Dorn Street was named for Brig. Gen. Earl Van Dorn, who fought in the Civil War.)
