May and June are two of the most beautiful months in Alexandria and they also bring a calendar full of outdoor events and festivals, celebrating the season and the city's vibrant community spirit. From art festivals to wine nights, block parties to classic cars — here’s your guide to the can’t-miss events happening around town:
May 16–18: Mount Vernon Wine Festival – Sip Virginia wines on the lawn of George Washington’s estate, with sunset views and candlelit tours of the mansion. Bring a blanket and relax on the east lawn overlooking the beautiful views of the Potomac River. Sample wines from Virginia wineries and take home your very own commemorative wine glass (guests must be prepared to show identification for wine service). Throughout the night, enjoy live music by The Hula Monsters.
May 17: Well Ray Festival – Explore wellness with local fitness studios, health vendors, and outdoor classes in the Del Ray neighborhood. On May 17th, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., the Del Ray Business Association presents the 9th Annual Well Ray Festival, a celebration of health and wellness! This festival is free for all to join. This event will also be collecting donations for the featured non-profit organization, Wilderness Kids Alexandria, which provides life-enriching experiences in nature to teenagers from under-resourced families and underserved communities in Alexandria, Virginia.
Wellness and holistic health practitioners will offer services including therapeutic massages, acupuncture, physical therapy consultations, chiropractic assessments, nutritional counseling, blood pressure screenings, meditation, wellness coaching, energy work and more.
Bring a water bottle, yoga mat and your work out shoes because at this festival there will be $5 outdoor classes for you to jump into! Sessions will include yoga, dance, high fitness, pilates, boxing, and gong sound classes for children and adults. Please register ahead of time to secure a spot! Additional spots may also be available day-of. The Festival will take place in the Salvation Army, Wellness Junction, and Bellies & Babies Parking lot on the corner of Mt. Vernon Ave & E Bellefonte Ave (s) in the heart of Del Ray.
May 18: Old Town Festival of Speed & Style – A free, family-friendly showcase of rare cars, fashion, and high-energy fun in the heart of Old Town.
June 7: Volunteer Alexandria is thrilled to present once again the Old Town Arts & Crafts Fair June 7, 2025, at Waterfront Park located at 1 Prince St. on the Potomac River. The free fair will run from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and provides entertainment for children, and more than 90 vendors. The annual fair features local and regional artisans who showcase their pieces across various mediums including pottery, stationery, fabrics, paintings, jewelry, photography and more. June 14: Alexandria Jazz Fest. Celebrate jazz music, America’s original beloved art form, at the Alexandria Waterfront! Enjoy live performances by some of the region’s top jazz performers, along with inspiring words by renowned poets. Plus: experience hands-on art projects, lawn games, food vendors, and drinks all afternoon. Admission is free.
June 27-July 4: Independence Fireworks. Watch a dazzling fireworks show at George Washington’s estate! On June 27-28 and July 4, relax on the east lawn and watch fireworks soar over the Potomac River. Enjoy an evening of family fun and patriotic music to celebrate our nation’s founding. Tickets go on sale May 5.
