Unable to get a permit in time for the traditional St. Patrick's Day Parade this year, the popular Alexandria parade will be hosted in September.
The Ballyshaners, the volunteer group that organizes the parade, will host a "Halfway to St. Patrick's Day Parade" on Saturday, Sept. 17 at noon.
In a long Facebook post, the Ballyshaners explained: "Our parades typically cost tens of thousands of dollars and require months of careful planning, and the past two years have been difficult for our members, sponsors, and local businesses. Due to funding uncertainties and because we were unable to procure a permit in time to ensure the parade could go on as planned, the Ballyshaners made the difficult decision to postpone the 2022 parade."
The organization encouraged residents to donate, sponsor the parade or volunteer to help. More information is available at www.ballyshaners.org.
