Wing Zone co-owners Zdravko Solenkov, left, and Mitko Kostadinov.
Zdravko Solenkov’s first job after coming to the United States from Bulgaria 5 years ago was as a delivery driver for the Wing Zone in Del Ray. Now, he’ll be co-owner of a new Wing Zone location opening in April in Mount Vernon.
Solenkov is partnering with Del Ray Wing Zone owner Mitko Kostadinov, who opened the Del Ray location in 2004.
This new Mount Vernon Wing Zone will be located in Engleside Plaza at 8634 Richmond Highway, directly across from Lukens Lane. The shopping center also has a Safeway, Pizza Hut, BB&T (bank) and more.
Wing Zone will open on or around April 26. More than just wings, Wing Zone offers chicken tenders, burgers, boneless wings, salads and a variety of sides. Chicken comes with traditional Buffalo spices, sweet/no heat sauces, dry rubs and more. A complete menu is available at www.wingzone.com/menu.
Grand opening plans are being finalized now, and will include specials on a variety of menu items and opening events.
Hiring is starting in early April.
This year is Wing Zone’s 25th anniversary. Matt Friedman and Adam Scott started Wing Zone as a delivery service from their fraternity house kitchen at the University of Florida in 1991. The first official restaurant opened a few years later, primarily in college markets, and franchises launched in 2000. Wing Zone now has more than 100 locations throughout the United States, including one on the campus of George Mason University and one in Bowie, Maryland. You may also find Wing Zones in Panama, Saudi Arabia, Guatemala and other countries.
