Ed McIntosh, the chef and co-founder of Alexandria's Chop Shop Taco in the Parker-Gray neighborhood, has set his sights on Old Town Alexandria's King Street, where he plans to open an old-school deli next month.
Dubbed Eddie's Little Shop & Deli, at 1406 King St., McIntosh's eatery will offer up "hearty sandwiches, cooking classes, Lyon Bakery breads, and thoughtful pantry essentials," EaterDC reports. Lyon Bakery is located in Hyattsville, Md. and bills itself as a maker of "the finest artisan breads."
The location was formerly home to the family-run Deli, News & More, which closed its doors last month after a decades-long run in Old Town.
McIntosh, a 2006 Culinary Institute of America grad, has a long restaurant pedigree and his resume includes stops as executive chef at Matchbox Food Group; executive chef at Hillstone Restaurant Group and executive chef at Great American Restaurants (which includes Carlyle in Shirlington).
Before helping launch Chop Shop Taco, which got its name from the former 1970s-era auto body garage located there, McIntosh got Tortilladora off the ground, from Union Kitchen and Shop Made DC.
In 2018, he opened Pendleton Carryout at 807 Pendleton St., while preparing the menu for Chop Shop Taco.
