Barbecue lovers, take note: Alexandria is about to get another barbecue restaurant.
Smoking Kow BBQ will open at 3250 Duke St., across from the Alexandria Commons shopping center, according to paperwork filed by the business with the City of Alexandria.
The new eatery will be sandwiched between Sweet Fire Donna's in the Carlyle neighborhood to the east and Rocklands Barbeque to the west.
Owner Dylan Kough (pronounced "cow") says the restaurant will feature a "chic fast casual environment." Proposed hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Smoking Kow BBQ is expanding — making a transition from just two food trucks to adding a permanent location. The company already offers catering services.
The menu speciality is hickory-smoked barbecue (smoked chicken, brisket and pork) tacos made from scratch. Tortillas are made from scratch every morning.
A popular menu item is barbecue served on a bed of mac 'n cheese. Hence the name: "Mac 'n Meat." (We're hoping their locally handcrafted rootbeer will be on the menu.)
