A new Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches shop is opening, but not where some Huntington-area residents may think.
A Jimmy John’s sign appeared on the fence surrounding a shuttered gas station next to SunTrust Bank in the 5900 block of Richmond Highway.
But the only Jimmy John’s opening south of the Beltway anytime soon is near Fort Belvoir, according to Covering the Corridor (see map below).
The new Jimmy John’s will be at Belvoir Square Apartments in the 9100 block of Richmond Highway, near the Fairfax County Parkway intersection. It will be opening later this year.
There are no active construction permits at the closed gas station, according to Fairfax County records, and it's not clear why a Jimmy John's sign is on the fence there.

Jimmy John’s serves quick-order sandwiches, drinks and deserts. The company markets itself as providing “unbelievably fast” delivery. Catering is also provided.
There are already multiple Jimmy John’s sandwich shops in the area — Crystal City, Springfield, the Carlyle neighborhood, the West End and several elsewhere in Arlington and Fairfax County.
Jimmy John’s has come under fire recently by animal rights activists who are boycotting the chain after seeing images of the company’s founder, Jimmy John Liautaud, participating in big-game hunting outings across the world.
