Alexandria Mayor Alyia Gaskins is pointing out some help to any federal workers in the City who are either laid off or anxious about the layoff situation under the new presidential administration. It includes a resource fair set for March 8 (see below).
Here's the Mayor's message, from her Council Report released Monday:
Alexandria is home to over 13,000 federal workers - dedicated public servants who play a vital role in keeping our government running. These individuals are not just residents of our city; they are the backbone of the agencies that process federal funds, oversee essential programs, and ensure that the critical services we rely on continue to function smoothly. Their contributions extend beyond their offices—many of them are also engaged in our schools, community organizations, and local initiatives, strengthening Alexandria in countless ways. Over the past month, I have received numerous emails about the impacts of the Trump Administration’s policies on federal workers, contractors and their families.
The City is working to ensure that federal workers are supported. We recently launched a dedicated city resource webpage to support federal workers .The website highlights employment resources, a comprehensive guide for federal employees transitioning into new fields, as well as support for housing, food, and child care. Rep. Connolly, Rep. Beyer, Rep. Subramanyam, Sen. Kaine, and Sen. Warner have hosted town halls and updated their websites as well. I encourage you to sign up for their newsletters too.
Congressman Don Beyer, in partnership with the City of Alexandria, the City of Falls Church, Arlington County, and Fairfax County, will host a pop-up resource fair on March 8th to access vital services.
