Mount Purrnon, a cat café and wine bar at 109 S. Alfred St. in Old Town, has found a family for its 1,000th cat. The cat's name was Tigger.
"When we started in 2020, I thought we may not make it a year. I thought if we found homes for the original 15, it would be a success story. Somehow, now it is 4.5 years later and we have adopted out 1000 cats!" the owners wrote in a Facebook post.
The dream of founders Kristin Cowan and Adam Patterson, Mount Purrnon started with a GoFundMe campaign that was successful — but then the pandemic arrived. The owners pushed through and opened during the pandemic with a variety of safety measures in place.
The menu includes sandwiches, salads and snacks, plus a variety of drinks, including beer and wine. The cats are in a room that is separate from the food preparation and cafe area.
The first set of cats came to Mount Purrnon from Fancy Cats and Dogs. In the first year, Mount Purrnon found homes for 180 cats.
Cat lovers are encouraged to make a reservations at mtpurrnoncatcafe.com, as the space often fills up.
