At the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA), animals are given healthy food, medical care, enrichment and a safe place to rest their heads. They are showered with attention by staff and volunteers, who try to learn as much as possible about how to make them happy so they can thrive when they find their new families. But no matter how much love and care they receive at the AWLA, it's not the same as living in a home, and the longer they stay with us, the harder it is to find that home.
Mars is the AWLA's longest resident. He's been there for nearly 150 days. In that time, he's made so many friends, who've learned that his favorite game is Tug, that he loves long walks, and that when you scratch his bottom, his tail does not stop wagging.
But no matter how much attention and affection he gets, 150 days in a kennel is not the life that Mars deserves. This 3-year-old terrier mix deserves a home of his own, where he can relax, decompress and have a family who loves him. The longer he stays at the AWLA, the more he is at risk: in danger of stress that can affect his mental - and even physical - health.
Mars is looking for a home. It can be a permanent home with an adoptive family or even a temporary foster home to give him some time away from the kennel environment. You can learn more about Mars and what he is seeking in a family in the video below. If you are interested in learning more about him and scheduling time to meet him, please email Adopt@AlexandriaAnimals.org. If you'd like to learn more about fostering Mars, email Foster@AlexandriaAnimals.org. Mars' adoption fee has been pre-paid by a generous donor and he is ready and waiting to find his new home!
