Dogtopia is attempting to set a new Guinness World Record title Tuesday — and the business is asking for help from residents.
Today at 2 p.m. local time, the company is asking residents to upload a photo to Instagram of their own dog sitting. Details are below of the requirements.
The world record attempt is part of Dogtopia's 20th anniversary celebration. Dogtopia offers doggie daycare, boarding and grooming across more than 190 centers in the United States and Canada.
Local centers include Alexandria, Arlington, Falls Church and Springfield.

In an email to customers, Dogtopia wrote:
"Dogtopia’s 20th Anniversary is Tuesday, September 20th and together, with your help, we want to achieve a Guinness World Records® title! What’s the best part? Your dogs get to participate too!
Here’s how to get involved on Tuesday, September 20th:
- Take a photo of your dog sitting – one dog per image, see below for the type of image that qualifies
- Upload to a public Instagram account starting at 11am PT/ 12pm MT/ 1pm CT/ 2pm ET. We have one hour to upload at least 500 images to individual accounts!
- Make sure your account is public and use the hashtag #DogtopiaDogParty in the main caption to make sure your post counts!
- Make sure you’re uploading your own photo, duplicate images will not count.
- Help us spread the word and tell your friends!
