Animal Welfare League of Alexandria
7-year-old Alex didn't have a great start to his year. When he was brought to the AWLA in January, he had been abandoned and his back legs were unable to support his weight.
A veterinary expert determined that he had several ruptured discs in his spine that limited the functionality of his lower half. Surgery had a 90-95% chance of restoring movement — but it was expensive and the recovery period would be long.
When the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria shared Alex's story with the community, they did not hesitate.
Over the course of one weekend, enough money was donated to cover the cost of Alex's test, surgery and physical therapy.
The sweet Shih Tzu underwent surgery in February, and in the care of his amazing foster family, he's been recuperating and undergoing physical therapy ever since, and now, he's ready to find a family of his own.
Alex is looking for a special family to help him with his special needs: he will need to continue his physical therapy while his legs grow stronger, and he will need patience as his recovery continues.
