When eight-year-old Shepherd mix Zoey came to the AWLA in early April, our staff was amazed at how friendly she was. During her intake and veterinary exams, one staff member called her "just the biggest cuddlebug."
We had been informed that she had a history of incontinence, but it didn't affect her mood and her big, infectious grin. Unfortunately, upon further veterinary examination, we found that Zoey has additional medical concerns, including a previously-reported mass on her liver, several mammary masses and a nasal mass in her right nostril that has caused her some difficulty breathing; however, her continued upbeat attitude would never betray this. Zoey's urinary issues are being addressed by twice-daily medication that will need to be continued long-term, but we do not have diagnoses for her other medical issues.
We do know that she is happy and comfortable, with a good quality of life, and we want her to be able to find a home and a family who can love her for the time she has left, whether it is months, a year or longer. We realize that her medical concerns might be daunting, but we know that somewhere in our animal-loving community, there is a family who can help Zoey by giving her a caring home to live her remaining time to the fullest.
**Thanks to a generous donor, my adoption fees have been paid!**
