The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) announced on Friday that it is selling its bus garage at 600 North Royal Street to Trammel Crow Residential.
Trammel Crow Residential bills itself as “the premier multifamily real estate company – the only national group with nearly 40 years of experience in residential development and asset management.”
Trammel Crow’s Trey Kirby told UrbanTurf this week, "We will be seeking a CRMU-X zoning classification through the [Development Special Use Permit] process and in conformance with the Old Town North Small Area Plan.” It is likely the building(s) will be entirely residential.
The bus garage at 600 North Royal Street sits on about 2 acres of prime real estate in northern Old Town Alexandria. WMATA started accepting bids for the property in 2017 for the 1933 brick building and the property it sits on. The final sale price was not disclosed.
