Dozens of residents helped Volunteer Alexandria organize, wrap and start distributing toys for the 2018 Community Toy Drive this past weekend.
The toy drive is implemented in partnership with the Alexandria City’s Department of Community and Human Services and starts in November with the collection of toys, books, and games. Those donations end up at a central location (this year the Chick Armstrong (Cora Kelly) Recreation Center), where they are wrapped, sorted and organized for distribution.
Each year, thousands of items are collected through the generosity and collaboration of many businesses, schools, churches and individuals. More than 650 children and 300 families are served.
