The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is asking commuters for feedbacks on the freeway and toll roads in Northern Virginia.
"The purpose of this survey is to help the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) understand your travel preferences and plan improvements in the National Capital Region," according to VDOT.
The questions focus on usage of the Express (HOT or High Occupancy/Toll) Lanes usage, testing users on their preferences and willingness to pay to save time.
One question, for example, asked if we would rather drive on the main lanes on I-395 for free for a 30-minute trip, pay $5 to save 8 minutes on that trip, or carpool to save both time and money.
The questions also asked about employment status, gender, age, home ZIP code and more.
"The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is evaluating options for reducing traffic congestion and improving travel speeds on the following roads in the National Capital Region:
- I-495 (Capital Beltway)
- I-66
- I-395
- I-95
- Dulles Toll Road
- Dulles Greenway
These options may include improvements to the current Express Lanes system. New Express Lanes may be built on I-66 Outside the Beltway, around I-495 (Capital Beltway), and on I-95 from Stafford to Richmond. Travel times and toll amounts on current Express Lanes and toll roads could change."
