Tim Laderach has announced his intent to run for Alexandria City Council, to fill the seat left vacant after Council Member Kirk McPike was elected in a "firehouse" Democrat primary for a House delegate seat. Also in the race is Sandy Marks, former chair of the Alexandria Democratic Committee, according to ALX Now. Marks is expected to kick off her campaign at an event Feb. 3, according to a "Sandy for the City" campaign Facebook post.
The following is a press release issued over the weekend from Laderach's campaign:
Today, Tim Laderach—a local attorney, pharmacist, U.S. Navy Reservist and dedicated community advocate—officially announced his candidacy for the Alexandria City Council. Standing on a record of nearly a decade of frontline service to the city, Laderach is launching his campaign with a clear mission: to move Alexandria forward as a “Safe Harbor” of stability, equity, and results in an increasingly uncertain national climate.
“We can’t always control the chaos in Washington, but we can control how we show up for each other right here in Alexandria,” said Tim Laderach. “I’ve spent nearly a decade preparing for this moment—not by watching from the sidelines, but by doing the work. True hope isn’t just a feeling; it’s a result of action. From the Navy to our neighborhoods, I’m ready to be the doer who ensures our city remains a safe harbor for every resident.”
Laderach’s campaign is built on the philosophy of “Day One Readiness.” As the current Chair of the Alexandria Economic Opportunities Commission (EOC) and President of the Del Ray Citizens Association (DRCA), he has been a key voice in navigating the city’s most pressing challenges. His platform focuses on three core pillars:
• Economic Mobility: Achieving shared prosperity for a stronger city.
• Community Resilience: Providing a safe harbor of stability in every storm.
• Inclusivity for All: Ensuring every neighbor has a voice that is heard at City Hall.
Laderach is no stranger to the hard work of community building. A 2023 Alexandria Chamber of Commerce “40 Under 40” honoree, he was also awarded the 2024 Del Ray Business Association Citizen Star Award alongside his wife, Elissa, for their tireless neighborhood advocacy. Whether mentoring youth as the Virginia Boys State coordinator for American Legion Post 24 or managing frontline vaccine clinics as a pharmacist, Laderach has consistently demonstrated that he is ready to lead.
“Since our very first weekend in Alexandria, I’ve been out there doing the work,” Laderach continued. “I’ve had the hammer in my hand to help a neighbor and the vaccine in the syringe to protect our city. Now, I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and bring that practitioner’s heart to City Hall.”
At a time when many are looking for a reason to believe in the future, Laderach’s campaign offers a vision of hope rooted in proven local experience. He invites all Alexandrians to join "The Crew" and help build a city that catches its neighbors when things get hard and lifts them up so they can thrive.
