The Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS), Alexandria Department of Health (AHD), Neighborhood Health Clinic, Permit Center, part of the Finance Department, and some Clerk of Court services will move to a new location: the Redella S. “Del” Pepper Community Center at 4850 Mark Center Drive.
The move will begin in February 2023. More than 600 City employees will leave their current offices in various locations to move to the new location.
According to Alexandria officials, the move will benefit residents by creating a “one-stop shop” for health and community needs with smoother transitions between related services. This includes a “no wrong door” approach, so that clients experience a continuum of services available at all points of entry.
4850 Mark Center Dr. was occupied by the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA), a nonprofit that administers federal programs from the Office of the Secretary of Defense, National Science Foundation and the National Security Agency. The organization moved to a new building in the Potomac Yard neighborhood in 2020.
The new building will be called the Redella S. “Del” Pepper Community Center, named after the former city council member.
