Heyday Skincare is celebrating its grand opening this weekend at 815 King St. The brand started in New York in 2015, and has expanded to 11 stores New York, Los Angles Philadelphia and Bethesda with plans to open 300+ shops nationwide including a few more in the DMV.
Heyday is unique in that it offers clients customizable 50 minute facials and treatments that estheticians create based on their specific skincare needs and concerns. The retail section of the store sells top skincare brands that use conscious and effective ingredients.
Our summer intern Rachel Gordon and I were invited to try Heyday facials for ourselves. Neither of us had experienced a professional facial before and have different skin needs and concerns.
Upon arrival into the store we were handed tablets where we filled out a comprehensive survey on skincare history, areas of concern and goals.

I was led to the back by my esthetician, Hunter, who asked me to briefly describe my skincare routine and what I wanted to focus on the most which are redness and anti-aging (now that I’m in my 30s). He then used a number of products which all smelled incredibly natural, herbal or fruity and had me feeling totally relaxed. I had some extractions done and was given a reminder to always wear sunscreen. Side note: the chair was also incredibly comfortable! I then received an LED light therapy treatment which helps boost collagen production. At the end of the 50 minutes, Hunter gave me a card with a summary of our visit and recommended products that were available to purchase in the store.
The next day I could not believe how glowing and perfect my skin looked! I didn’t even have to wear foundation. While this may have been my first facial, I can say it definitely won’t be my last.

I had my first facial at Heyday and it was a great experience! I was a bit nervous as I wasn’t sure what to expect but my esthetician, Sierra B., assured me that I was in good hands and talked me through the process. I have an allergy to all tree nuts (which are commonly used as an exfoliant in beauty products) and just generally sensitive skin. Sierra set aside every product containing my allergen and chose gentle, soothing formulas for my skin. She made sure I was comfortable and relaxed during my 50 minute facial complete with hot towels, facial massages, extractions, a face mask. She applied cleansers, toner, moisturizer, and sunscreen. At the end Sierra advised me on which products are best suited for my skin and was able to answer any questions I had.
