Alexandria-based Bonaventure Realty is planning to redevelop the former Alexandria Department of Community and Human Services building at 2525 Mount Vernon Ave., according to a report by Washington Business Journal.
A site plan submitted to city officials by Bonaventure earlier this month shows that the 42,301 square foot office building currently located on the 0.86 acre lot could become a four-story, 88,500 square foot building with 12,516 square feet of ground floor retail and 78 one- and two-bedroom apartments.
If approved, redevelopment would include site improvements like 14,800 square feet of ground level and above-ground open space. 110 off-site parking spaces for the project would be located in the 2400 block of Mount Vernon Ave.

R.C. Fields and Associates, Inc., which is also based in Alexandria, is listed as the engineer on the project and Lorax Design Group out of Overland Park, Kansas, is listed as the landscape architect.
Bonaventure purchased the former Anthony's Auto Center at 2903 Mount Vernon Ave. in 2017, and later purchased a number of properties in the 2400 block of Mount Vernon Avenue. Bonaventure CEO Dwight Dunton was raised in Del Ray and is a graduate of T.C. Williams High School (now called Alexandria City High School).
The City’s Department of Community and Human Services is moving to a new location at 4850 Mark Center Place in the West End.
