Voters in Alexandria took a strong interest in Tuesday’s Alexandria City Public School Board election. As school board members serve in office for the next three years, they will be working toward solving capacity issues, re-envisioning the high school experience and meeting infrastructure needs.
The Alexandria City School Board has nine members who are elected by voters. Sixteen candidates were running — only five were incumbents. Each Alexandria City Public Schools district elects three members to the School Board.
Here are the results with all local precincts reporting except Absentee and Provisional ballots:
In District A on the east side of Alexandria, newcomers Jacinta Greene, Michelle Reif and Chris Suarez will join the School Board. Incumbent William (Bill) Campbell will not return as a member.
Alexandria's District B voters have sent three incumbents back to the Alexandria City School Board. Voters elected Margaret Lorber, Cynthia (Cindy) Anderson and Veronica Nolan in that district, which includes most of the central portion of the City of Alexandria.
In District C, Heather Thornton and Meagan Lorraine Alderton will be joining the School Board. Ramee Gentry will return to the school board.
